Far out Friday: No mortgage needed in super city for 18yo superstar

To be a mortgage free teen in Auckland, try making it in the music industry.

Ella Yelich-O'Connor, aka Lorde, has made her first debut on the property ladder with a $2.84 million city villa purchase in Auckland, paid in full according to an article in the NZ Herald

Her hard work, determination and topping the US music charts has allowed her to call a piece of the super city her own while being mortgage-free.

The singer-songwriter chose a four-bedroom 182sq m property on a quiet street on the border of Herne Bay, Ponsonby and Grey Lynn.

The villa, built in 1900 and on a 447sq m section, has a heated swimming pool and was extensively renovated by previous owners.

Lorde’s purchase was made possible by the overwhelming success of her album Pure Heroine which a Herald analysis revealed had earned her over $11 million on that album alone.

The NZ Herald’s questions to the singer for further details on the purchase and her investment plans were met with a polite "no comment".
