NZGBC is set to launch Homestar v4, its newest home sustainability rating tool

Property group to launch new home rating tool

A new rating tool ensuring simpler and quicker verification of home sustainability will be launched in July, according to New Zealand Green Building Council.

Homestar v4 was designed by NZGBC for owners and developers to get a Homestar rating when building multiple homes or apartments.

“We’ve spent six months amending the tools to make Homestar v4 an easier rating tool for builders and developers who are building to scale,” NZGBC chief, Andrew Eagles told NZ Property Council.

As New Zealand communities become denser and people live in closer proximity to one another the more important Homestar rating will become, Eagles said.

“What we have shown is that high environmental performance houses are proven to improve health, reduce energy costs and ease the burden on urban infrastructure. We already have 10,000 homes going through Homestar and this is only set to increase.

“The benefit of Homestar v4 is it will now make gaining a rating 20-60 per cent quicker, yet it will be just as robust.”

In line with the rating tool launch, a series of half-day workshops will be held in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Tauranga, and Queenstown to discuss how sustainable rating tools help increase the quality of New Zealand buildings.
