Blandon Leung of iRefi was named eighth in our inaugural Top Adviser Rankings, which were announced last month.

He started iRefi with old school and university friends two years ago, and since then, the business that offers clients insurance and mortgage advice online, has reviewed $2 billion worth of lending for 8,500 clients in Auckland.

Leung is passionate about helping people get the best they can out of their mortgage and helping his clients build wealth through property.

“It became my mission to share my knowledge on how to manage mortgages.

“Property is a vehicle for a much earlier retirement, and it all starts with managing a mortgage. I’m really passionate about being able to share knowledge and helping people.

“That’s what motivates me. Helping set up their future plans.”

Leung said iRefi marketed the business heavily online, and has had particular success with their online mortgage calculator.

The business is a digital offering, allowing clients to refix or apply for finance online, but this doesn’t mean that they’re only interacting with first-home buyers or millennials – Leung added that they deal with a wide variety of people, from “all walks of life”.

“I thought, how do we distribute ideas really quickly? And it’s through online platforms (that we achieved that) educating clients online, that’s how you get to bigger numbers – and that’s what we did, we did Facebook articles, blogs and we got a really good response,” Leung explained.

Next year, Leung said his focus would be to add as much value as possible to his business, and his clients.

“I’m learning so much about property investment and that’s how I add value (to clients)

“We’ve reviewed more than $2 billion worth of loans over the phone, and that's thousands of calls.

“What we’re learnt is that there are some really effective strategies that investors use to leverage their equity to build a portfolio and that’s the knowledge we want to share with everyone, and that’s our vision – to be able to create a platform that every Kiwi can use, and that they have an epiphany from using the platform. That’s our end goal,” Leung said.
