ANZ appoints new name to CEO's former role

ANZ New Zealand has appointed Ben Kelleher as its new Managing Director, Retail & Business Banking.

Kelleher has been with ANZ for seven years and has been acting in the role for the past six months, and was previously the General Manager, Auckland and Northland, for Retail and Business Banking.

He has also led the Private Bank team and the Strategy team during his time at ANZ, and has held various strategy analyst and project manager roles in New Zealand and overseas.

He steps into the former position of ANZ CEO Antonia Watson, who says she is “delighted” to be appointing Kelleher to the role.

“Retail and business banking is at the heart of ANZ’s business in New Zealand, and I’m delighted to appoint Ben to this key role,” Watson said.

“Ben brings experience, energy and ideas to Retail and Business Banking at an exciting time. Technology is transforming the industry, enabling us to make banking easier, more convenient and putting the customer in the driver’s seat of their financial future.”

The permanent position is effective immediately, and will be based in Auckland. Kelleher joins the ranks of ANZ New Zealand’s leadership team, and will report to CEO Antonia Watson.

The appointment has received a non-objection from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
