Social media and online marketing are key for mortgage advisers in today’s technological environment.

An online presence not only helps your brand, but will also do wonders for lead generation.

One expert is helping brokers and advisers by launching a series of tips, starting with a free Google for Business checklist. According to Karen Hall, director of Australian-based 101 Things, Google is five times more important than social media.

As part of Halls’ tips, she has created a ten-point checklist to make sure mortgage advisers are featuring in Google searches.

Hall’s checklist is below. Give yourself one point for each completed action or activity.

  1. I have a Google For Business page set up for my business
  2. My Google For Business listing is ‘verified’
  3. All of the basic information on the page in complete and up-to-date
  4. I have more than 10 ‘5 star’ reviews on my Google for Business page
  5. I have more than 50 ‘5 star’ reviews on my page
  6. I have responded to every review I’ve received
  7. I have the direct link to send to my clients to ask for reviews
  8. I have more than 10 photos on my page
  9. I add a post to my page every single week
  10. I have more than 5 videos on my page

Scoring:

0 - 3 points: You’re likely to be hard to find online, and missing leads and revenue! Get going with this checklist ASAP!

4 - 7 points: Good, but there may be competitors in your market that are doing better, and you don’t want to be missing business for a little bit of effort

8 - 10 points: Keep up the good work; if you’re already asking your prospects how they heard about you, Google is probably a key source!
