Major bank calls young Māori students for 5k business scholarships
Westpac has called for prospective Māori business students to apply to Te Waiu O Aotearoa Trust scholarships. Scholarship winners will be awarded $5,000 towards their study costs for 2018.

Māori students heading into tertiary study next year are encouraged to apply for one of up to four Te Waiu O Aotearoa Trust scholarships, the bank said.

For a chance to win the scholarship, applicants, of Māori descent and are Iwi registered, over 16 years of age and are attending general business-related degree, are called to submit an application in writing which includes: a personal and contact details (including whakapapa), a summary of educational history, a personal statement outlining personal aspirations, reasons for study and projected outcomes including community involvement; and a letter of support from their secondary school.

According to Westpac the scholarship was established to promote, develop, and provide for the education and advancement of Māori within the banking, finance, and general business industries.

Westpac said it will also support successful applicants with the opportunity to consider work experience during their holidays while they complete their degree.

Applications close on Sept. 22.
