Major insurer’s new CFO

This insurer heavyweight had a gap to fill following a retirement announcement.

Suncorp New Zealand has revealed its new chief financial officer will be Tim Buckett, effective from 1 July.

His appointment follows the decision by Peter Brown to retire as CFO at the end of the financial year.

Suncorp New Zealand CEO Paul Smeaton said Buckett had been with the company for over nine years, most recently as EGM group strategy and corporate development in the group CFO team.

He had joined Suncorp in April 2007 shortly after the Promina acquisition was announced and had worked in a number of positions including nearly five years as EGM customer development for Suncorp Bank.

“As CFO, Tim will manage all actuarial, financial management, strategy, business performance management and procurement for Suncorp New Zealand,” Smeaton said.

“I look forward to Tim joining the Suncorp New Zealand business, which provides general insurance and life insurance to New Zealanders through its well-known brands, Vero Insurance, Asteron Life, and AA Life.”

He added: “I would also like to recognise the immense contribution of Peter Brown to Suncorp over the past 35 years.”
